Kabul – The first team of mountaineers named “Hike Ventures Afghanistan” led by Aqila Hashimi, a courageous female Afghan mountaineer, climbed to Shah Fuladi, the Baba Mountain highest peak, 5,140 meters high, located in Bamyan province of Afghanistan. Aqila Hashimi leads a team consists of eight women and two men. She began to climb mountains in 2017. She has been a member of the “Hike Ventures Afghanistan” since 2020. Her team climbed to Mount Noshaq, 7,482 meters high, located in Afghanistan's Badakhshan Province and many other mountains such as Kōtal-e Sālang in Parwan Province and Paghman located in Kabul.

Aqila Hashimi has never listened to the criticisms against her and kept climbing mountains. When she decided to climb mountains, only her brother supported her.

“Such successes are exciting”

“I began to climb mountains with this team. My aim was to climb the highest mountains and conquer them,” one of the team female members said. The female mountaineer told us that she feels more comfortable during the climbs because a woman leads the team and the majority of the team members are women. “Women climb to the challenging mountains and their leader is a woman. That’s awesome. We had risks but we managed to climb. Such successes are exciting.”

“We can change the destiny of our lives”

Hesyana Hesên Zade is also a member of the team. “Women shouldn’t limit themselves because we can change the destiny of our lives. We should struggle to gain our rights; we should break the chains around us. Mountain climbing is a difficult and dangerous sport. But I could reach the highest peaks of this country with a group of women. “This is also a sign showing that women can fly into the sky.”
