Hedle Hesen: KDP legitimizes the occupation of Kurdistan and massacre of Kurds

Hedle Hesen, the co-chair of the Movement for a Democratic Society (TEV-DEM), drew attention to the military operations carried out by Turkey in the Federated Kurdistan Region (also known as Iraqi Kurdistan), “The KDP paves the way for Turkey to attack. Kurdish people should unite against the attacks,” she said.

Kobanî – Turkish troops have settled somehow in the Federal Kurdistan Region since the 1990s. There are 73 Turkish military bases in the region. Turkish forces, allowed by the KDP (Kurdistan Democratic Party), have launched military operations in many parts of the region. Speaking about the Turkish attacks in the region, Hedle Hesen, the co-chair of the Movement for a Democratic Society (TEV-DEM), condemned the silence of the KDP against the attacks.

“Massacres are legitimized”

Referring to Turkey's presence in Federal Kurdistan, Hedle Hesen said, “The partnership between the Turkish state and the KDP has a long history. Today, we see that the Turkish troops advance up to 40 km inside Southern Kurdistan and the Turkish state has established 73 military bases in the region. No international law approves the settlement of a state on the territory of another state. But Turkish state has settled in Southern Kurdistan with the permission and approval of the KDP. In this way, the KDP legitimizes the occupation of Kurdistan and massacre of Kurds.”

“Bodies of fighters aren’t given to their families”

Emphasizing that there is a resistance against the Turkish attacks, Hedle Hesen stated “Some fighters lost their lives. The KDP hasn’t given the bodies of fighters to their families for more than a month. We remember the practices of the Turkish state because it didn’t give the bodies of people to their families for days, months even years. For this reason, we can say that the practices of the KDP are similar to the practices of the AKP-MHP coalition. Mothers of the fighters, who lost their lives, have held a protest at the Semelka Border Gate to take the bodies of their children but the KDP doesn’t give the bodies. The practices of the KDP are crimes against humanity.”

“Kurdish people should unite”

“The Kurds have achieved many gains in the 21st century thanks to Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, the Kurdistan Freedom Struggle, and the 19 July Revolution. Unfortunately, we saw the Kurds, who work with the enemy and we still see them. But this century and uprising are different. For this reason, we will prevail. The Kurdish people should unite to prevail.”
