Hasakah- On Saturday, a conference on Kurdish national unity was held at the Azadi Garden Hall in the city of Qamishlo (Qamishli) with the participation of more than 400 delegates.
“The conference represented the free will of society and it was an important step,” said Nuhad Şindî, a resident of Til Temir. “We are lucky to have witnessed this historic day. Achieving Kurdish national unity was also the dream of our elders. Actually, this conference was held thanks to the efforts of our martyrs during the Rojava Revolution. Kurdish national unity has been achieved to protect the gains of the revolution achieved by great efforts.”
Nuhad Şindî thinks that the conference was also important for Syria’s future. “The conference was important for the Syrian people who demand a democratic, pluralistic, multi-colored, decentralized Syria. The common position demonstrated at the conference represents a strong unity aiming at building a free Syria, where all religious and ethnic groups live together. It is time to unite. The Kurdish people took an important step following the call for peace by Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan to guarantee their rights and existence.”
‘Women have led the achieving Kurdish unity’
“Women have resisted and struggled for years to achieve Kurdish unity,” said Beyan Xelîl, a woman living in the city of Hasakah. “They have led the achieving Kurdish unity. Unity makes strength. As women, we will demand our rights and build a decentralized Syria. The conference was a response to all genocidal plans.”
