4 students sexually abused by their teacher in Şırnak

A teacher named Muammer Uğur was arrested for sexually abusing four students in Şırnak. The fourth hearing of the child sexual abuse trial will be held on May 16, 2025.

News Center- Muammer Uğur, a teacher at the Martyr Commissioner Umut Tunçay Primary-Secondary School in the city of Şırnak, was arrested for sexually abusing four students upon a complaint.

According to the Mesopotamia Agency (MA), four girls aged 11, 12 and 13 told their families that they had been sexually abused by their teacher. When their families filed a criminal complaint against the teacher, Muammer Uğur was arrested on September 28, 2024.

As part of an investigation launched into the alleged child sexual abuse, 13-year-old student namely, D.S.B. made a statement on September 27, saying that Muammer Uğur also sexually abused other students. The other students also made a statement, accusing the teacher of having sexually abused them.

Muammer Uğur denied the accusations against him, claiming that the students “were incited” into accusing him of sexual abuse.

After the investigation was completed, Şırnak Chief Public Prosecutor's Office prepared a 7-page indictment against Muammer Uğur for having sexually abused four students. The indictment was later accepted by the Şırnak High Criminal Court.

The fourth hearing of the child abuse trial will be held on May 16, 2025.
