Qamishlo- Dulce Maria, a traditional doctor of Abya Yala living in Mexico City, visited Rojava for the first time upon the invitation of Kongra Star. When she was in Rojava, she visited women’s institutions and organizations of North and East Syria to get to know the revolution led by women in Rojava and the experiences of women in Rojava.
NuJINHA interviewed Dulce Maria about her visit in Rojava and women’s conditions in Mexico. “No woman should experience violence. Women are life-givers,” she told NuJINHA.
“I want to say that something terrible is happening in Mexico. There are many missing women and girls. They are kidnapped, sold as sex workers, killed for their organs or to work for drug trafficking. In our country, women are seen as objects to be sold. The government does not want to accept this reality. Despite that, there are women speaking out against this reality. Women and mothers look for the bodies of their loved ones in the desert, the mountains, the rivers, the ravines and garbage dumps.”
‘Women’s freedom can make a change on our planet’
Dulce Maria drew attention to the life built by women in Rojava and said, “This revolution led by women has inspired women all around the world. Women all around the world should unite to be free. It is important to start understanding that women’s freedom can make a change on our planet. Our struggle is for life, our struggle is for humanity, we love the earth. We know that our presence can make a change.”
Dulce Maria thanked Kongra Star for having invited her to Rojava. “We have got to know more about the women’s struggle in Rojava. Collective efforts of women can ensure women’s freedom not only in Latin America or Rojava but also in all continents.”
