Saturday Mother Saffet Yaman passes away

Saffet Yaman, one of the Saturday Mothers, passed away in the Adapazarı district of Sakarya on December 4. She sought justice for her son Hüsamettin Yaman, who disappeared after being detained in Istanbul in 1992.

News Center- Saffet Yaman, one of the Saturday Mothers, passed away in the Adapazarı district of Sakarya on December 4, 2023. She was laid to rest by her relatives and loved ones at Serdivan Cemetery after the afternoon prayer. Saffet Yaman sought justice for her son Hüsamettin Yaman, who disappeared after being detained in Istanbul in 1992.

‘One of our mothers passed away before getting justice’

The Saturday Mothers published a statement on their social media account regarding the death of Saffet Yaman. “One of our mothers passed away before getting justice. Rest in peace. You never gave up on looking for your son and we will never give up on looking for Hüsamettin,” the statement said.

Hüsamettin Yaman, a student at Istanbul University, Vocational School of Technical Sciences, disappeared after being taken into custody on May 4, 1992.

In an interview with Taraf newspaper in 2012, Ayhan Çarkın, former member of the Police Special Operation Teams, said that he killed the students named Ayhan Efeoğlu, Hüsamettin Yaman and Mehmet Soner Gül in 1992 and that he could show the places where they were killed. After this interview, the family of Hüsamettin Yaman filed a criminal complaint against Ayhan Çarkın.
