Turkey: Men kill 33 women in November

42% of women killed by their husbands

The report said that 42% of 33 women were killed by their husbands. Of the 33 women killed in November, 14 women were killed by their husbands, four by their ex-husbands, two by their partners, two by their ex-partners, seven by men known by women, two by their sons and one by her brother.

Nine of 33 women were killed by men on the excuse that they had asked for a divorce, refused marriage or dating proposals, two women were killed by men on the excuse of financial reasons, one woman was killed along with her mother while she was trying to protect her mother. The excuse of men, who killed 21 women could not be determined, the report said.

Most women were killed at their homes

We Will Stop Femicide Platform also included the places where 33 women were killed in the report. 23 of the women were killed at their homes, three on the street, three in a deserted place, two in a public place, one in a hotel and one in a car. 70% of the women were killed at their homes in November.

Most women were shot dead

61% of the women were shot dead in November, said the report. “Men killed 20 women with firearms, seven with sharp objects. Men beat a woman to death and killed three women by drowning. The weapon used to kill two women could not be determined.”

 On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, President Erdoğan made a speech and said, “The withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention hasn’t had the slightest negative impact.”

Mentioning the speech of Erdoğan, the report said, “Since the withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention on March 21, 2021, 833 women have been murdered, and 646 women have died under suspicious circumstances. We ask the President: Is not the killing of 833 women a negative impact? We will continue to fight for every victim of femicide. We will not allow their stories to be forgotten.”
