Five prisoners held in the Izmir Kırıklar Prison sent a letter to the Human Rights Association (IHD) Izmir branch, saying that their relatives, who went to prison in order to visit them, had been subjected to strip search and harassment.

News Center- On May 5, 2023, the relatives of prisoners went to Izmir Kırıklar F-Type Closed Prison to visit their relatives; however, they were subjected to strip search and harassment.

The letter sent to the Human Rights Association by İshak Deman, Salih Gölyar, Savaş Altun, Sami Öztürk and Velat Taş, who have been held in the prison, reveals what the relatives of prisoners were subjected to in the prison.

 ‘A systematic attack’

The letter said, “Our family members, who came to the prison to visit us on May 5, were subjected to strip search. The female members of our families were forced to remove underwear and they were sexually harassed. Those who applied this inhuman practice against our relatives is İbrahim Yücesoy, the manager of Prison No.1. The aim of this attack is to turn the prison into a concentration camp by applying such inhuman practices and constantly harassing our family members. Previously, our other family members were subjected to the same practices. These practices have become a systematic attack against our family members. Our family members, who opposed the strip search, were threatened with a visitation ban. Disciplinary investigations are launched against us when we oppose such practices and attacks. They aim to intimidate with disciplinary punishments.”

In the letter, the political prisoners called on everyone to speak out against inhuman practices in the prison.
