Indian scholar Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak expresses her support to ‘call for peace’

“I speak in absolute support of the peace process,” Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak, an Indian scholar, literary theorist, and feminist critic, said in a video message to support the call for peace by Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan.

News Center- Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak, an Indian scholar, literary theorist, and feminist critic, sent a video message to support the “Call for Peace and Democratic Society” made by Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan on February 27, 2025.

“I speak in absolute support of the peace process,” Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak said in the video message published by People's Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) on social media platform X on Wednesday.

“It will be difficult to sustain it because there is a history of conflict, long history of conflict and broken ceasefires but it looks like something might happen. I am a pacifist. Anytime there is a possibility of an end to war, I will be there.  Any time there is a possibility of reconciliation between opposed parties, I will be there. Because these oppositions are structural, whereas human solidarity is textural. Wars are structural; the people who are killed have no face. But ceasefires are textured; because each gesture has to be protected. So what can I say, you have my absolute support and I would like to hear a little more about gender solidarity within these peace processes and once again much good luck that's how this will be sustainable. The world needs it. Thank you.”
