News Center_Egypt is witnessing a notable rise in “rejection crimes” and violence against women, amid increasing calls to strengthen societal awareness and develop legal protection mechanisms. Human rights organizations affirm that this phenomenon now demands urgent intervention to curb its social and security repercussions.

Today, Tuesday, August 25, a report was filed with the security authorities in the Giza Security Directorate about the discovery of a murdered young woman in 6th of October City. The criminal investigation departments immediately began examining the circumstances of the incident, and investigations revealed that the victim's cousin was behind the crime.

After the perpetrator was arrested, he confessed before the investigating authorities to killing his cousin for refusing to marry him, admitting that an argument broke out between them, which led him to kill her using a sharp weapon he was carrying, then disposing of her body in a remote area in an attempt to divert suspicion.

Following the investigations, the accused was referred to the Giza Public Prosecution for further investigation. After hearing his testimony, the Public Prosecution decided to remand him in custody for four days pending investigation, while investigations into the incident continue.

Social media users widely reacted to the incident, with many considering that it brings back memories of the murder of Mansoura University student Nira Ashraf, who was killed by her colleague in broad daylight for refusing to marry him. Many called for societal awareness to curb phenomena of "rejection killings" and violence against women in Egypt.
