Gaza- On Wednesday (June 1), Palestinian journalist Ghufran Haroun Hamed Warasneh (31) was shot and killed by the Israeli forces at the entrance to the Al-Arroub camp, north of Hebron.

The Palestinian Red Crescent stated that the occupation forces hindered the arrival of ambulance crews to the injured young woman, only after about 20 minutes, and she was transferred to Al-Ahly Hospital in Hebron, but the medical teams were unable to save her life.

“Women are directly targeted”

In an interview with NuJINHA, feminist and human rights activist Fatima Ashour said, “The occupation forces directly target everyone who is Palestinian, particularly women. Targetting Palestinian female journalists has become a very dangerous matter especially after the murder of Shireen Abu Akleh. Several weeks after her murder, the occupation forces committed another crime, they killed journalist Ghufran Haroun Hamed Warasneh.”

“38 women were killed in 2021”

Lawyer Hanadi Salah drew attention to the fact that the Israeli forces often target journalists and civilians. “The Israeli occupation forces targeted about 38 women in the Gaza Strip and five women in the West Bank in 2021. Women living under occupation have been left unprotected. Palestinian people suffer from siege, the Israeli occupation forces, economic crisis and many more issues.”
