According to preliminary information reported by local media today, Wednesday, August 26, at least 14 infants lost their lives in the Pakistani capital Islamabad following a fire that broke out in the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital due to a fault in the air conditioning system.

Reports confirmed that the fire broke out on the third floor, within the maternity and child ward of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, and is believed to have been caused by the explosion of a compressor in one of the air conditioning units in the nursery. Rescue officials said the fire was fully brought under control, and teams are continuing cooling operations at the site to prevent it from reigniting.
