Shahba- As 2023 marks the 100th anniversary of the Treaty of Lausanne, the hegemonic powers, particularly the Turkish state, aim to continue their interventions in Syria by using different methods. The occupation attacks of the Turkish state on North and East Syria since October 5 are supported by these powers. In an interview with NuJINHA, Zelox Bekir, Co-chair of Afrin-Shehba Canton Education and Training Board, commented on the ongoing Turkish attacks on North and East Syria and the plans of the hegemonic powers in the Middle East.

‘The Turkish state attacks the gains of the revolution’

On October 8, the Turkish state targeted the academy of the Internal Security Forces in the Jazira Region, killing 29 members of the anti-drug unit and injuring 28 members of the unit. At the beginning of her speech, Zelox Bekir expressed her condolences to the people of North and East Syria for their loss. “The hegemonic powers that played a role in the Treaty of Lausanne, have intensified their interventions in Syria once again on the 100th anniversary of the treaty. The Turkish state, which acts according to its own interests, has been attacking North and East Syria, the gains of the revolution since the Syrian crisis broke out. Its aim is to annihilate the Kurdish people. Since the beginning of the Arab Spring, Syria has been suffering from destruction, looting and an unsafe environment.”

‘The unity of the people raises their anger’

Speaking about the system based on democracy of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) in North and East Syria, Zelox Bekir said, “This system aims to ensure freedom for the Kurdish people. The history of the Turkish state has been written by shedding blood of the Kurdish people. The unity of the North and Syrian people raises the anger of Tayyip Erdoğan. The Turkish state has been suffering from an economic crisis and it attacks other regions to overcome this economic crisis. The recent Turkish attacks on our region are supported by the states that have intervened in the Syrian crisis and allow the occupation of Syrian territories.”

‘People are determined to resist’

Mentioning the recent Turkish attacks on North and East Syria, she said, “The Turkish state has been intensifying its attacks on many parts of North and East Syria. The hegemonic powers aim to cause chaos in the Middle East again. The people of North and East Syria are determined to resist the Turkish attacks. The main aim of the Turkish attacks is to change the demographic structure of the region. Erdoğan wants to revive the Ottoman Empire.”

‘Resistance is a response to the enemy’

Commenting on the ongoing Turkish attacks on Shehba, she said, “The unity of North and East Syrian people will ruin the plans of invaders despite the attacks aiming to displace them. The resistance of the people is a response to the enemy. Everyone should know very well that nothing can break the strong will of the people.”
