Dismissed Kurdish mayor Filiz Buluttekin faces up to 15 years in prison

A Turkish prosecutor demanded a prison sentence of seven years to 15 years for Filiz Bulttekin, dismissed Co-mayor of the Sur Municipality, at the first hearing of the retrial held by the Diyarbakır 11th High Criminal Court.

News Center- Filiz Buluttekin, dismissed Co-mayor of the Sur Municipality, was sentenced to seven years and six months in prison by Diyarbakır 11th High Criminal Court on charges of “membership in a ‘terrorist’ organization” on February 22, 2021.

The Diyarbakır Regional Court of Appeal reversed the judgment. The first hearing of the trial was held today by the Diyarbakır 11th High Criminal Court. Filiz Buluttekin did not attend the hearing while her lawyer Sertaç Buluttekin was present.

Despite the reversal decision of the Diyarbakır Regional Court of Appeal, the prosecutor demanded a prison sentence of seven years to 15 years for Filiz Bulttekin.

Sertaç Buluttekin requested time to prepare their defense. The court accepted the request and postponed the hearing to April 29, 2024.
