ISIS members to be stand trial on charges of “human trafficking” for abducting Yazidi girl

Legal organizations call for participation in the hearing of the trial against ISIS members, who will stand trial on charges of “human trafficking” for putting an abducted Yazidi girl up for sale online in Ankara.

News Center- In December 2021, legal organizations in Ankara filed a criminal complaint against ISIS members, who abducted a 7-year-old Yazidi girl and put her up for sale online on February 24. A legal action was filed against ISIS members on charges of “human trafficking” upon the criminal complaint. Today, (October 26), the first hearing of the trial will be held by the Ankara 15th High Criminal Court.

The Lawyers Association for Freedom (ÖHD) is one of the legal organizations that filed a criminal complaint against ISIS members. The ÖHD has released a statement on its social media account, calling for participation in the hearing.

“A legal action was filed against ISIS members for putting an abducted Yazidi girl (7) up for sale online on charges of ‘membership in in a terrorist organization’. However, their action is a war crime against Yazidi girls and women and a crime against humanity. For this reason, the ÖHD, IHD (Human Rights Association) Ankara branch, the ÇHD (Progressive Lawyers Association) Ankara branch and the Lawyers for Democracy filed a criminal complaint demanding the prosecution of ISIS members on charges of ‘committing crimes against humanity’ and ‘human trafficking’.

Call for participation in the hearing

“Upon our demand, a legal action was filed against ISIS members on charges of 2human trafficking’. We think participation in the hearing is important. The hearing will be held by the Ankara 15th High Criminal Court at the Ankara Sıhhiye Courthouse today at 11.30. We expect and attach importance to the participation of women MPs, members of women’s councils and human rights organizations in the hearing.”
