Warda Al-Jazairia started singing when she was very young and became famous among Arab children in France after her songs were played on a local radio.
Warda Al-Jazairia, known as the Rose of Algeria, was born in Paris on July 22, 1939. She became one of the legendary singers of the Arab world along with Lebanese singer Fairuz and Egyptian singer Umm Kulthum. Warda Al-Jazairia started singing when she was very young and became famous among Arab children in France after her songs were played on a local radio.
Warda moved to Cairo when the city was the heart of the Arab cultural and artistic scene. In the 1970s, she had her big break with the hit “My Times Are Sweeter With You.”
She lived in Egypt for more than 40 years. She appeared in many Egyptian films.
She died on May 17, 2012 at her home in Cairo.
