Women wait excitedly for March 8

Members of the Hilala Zêrin Cultural Movement in Aleppo have already begun their preparations for International Women’s Day. “We have started our rehearsals for March 8. We have worked for hours to be ready on March 8. As International Women’s Day approaches, our excitement grows.”

Aleppo- As International Women’s Day approaches, the women living in northeastern Syria have already begun to celebrate their day. Members of the Hilala Zêrin Cultural Movement and Cemil Horo Culture and Art Center in Aleppo have started their rehearsals for their musical, theater and dance performances on March 8. We spoke to several members of the Hilala Zêrin Cultural Movement about their preparations.

“As International Women’s Day approaches, our excitement grows”

Wishing a happy Women’s Day to all women, Tizyal Mihemed, executive of the movement, said, “We desire for the world to be peaceful. We have already started our rehearsals for March 8. We have a program including many activities. We have worked more than before to be ready on March 8. As International Women’s Day approaches, our excitement grows. We call on all women to attend all activities by wearing their traditional clothes.”

“I hope all women like our performance”

Xedica Hesen, a member of the movement’s musical group, rehearses twice a week. “I play the drums and sing. I hope all women like our performance. We wish freedom to all women and women to have a voice and color in society. Women should believe in themselves. They can do everything.”

Speaking about their rehearsals, Rengin İbrahim said, “We started our rehearsals two months ago. The name of our musical group is Martyr Şîlan Kobanê. Our group consists of 20 women and they play many musical instruments. We hope our performance will be liked.”
