Theatre performance in Mount Kizwanan region to raise awareness about violence against women

A theatre performance was staged on the foothill of Mount Kizwanan to raise awareness about violence against women as part of the 16 Days Activism campaign. “We want to raise awareness about violence against women because it is ignored,” said Cîhan Ehmed, one of the theatre players.

Hesekê – A theatre performance was staged in the Xerayê village of Hesekê, in the Mount Kizwanan region, with support of the Kongra Star to raise awareness about violence against women as part of 16 Days Activism campaign. The theatre group aims to stage the performance in all villages in the region.

Cîhan Ehmed, one of the theatre players and a health worker, spoke to our news agency and said, “In our performance, we try to reveal the effects of the patriarchal mentality on women. We also try to reveal how violence affects women and society not only physically but also psychologically. We want to raise awareness about violence against women because it is ignored.”

“Silence kills”

Highlighting that everyone should raise their voice against violence against women, Cîhan Ehmed said, “Silence kills women and society. It is not difficult to say no to violence against women. Violence has to be stopped.”
