Amed- Women’s Association For Culture, Art and Literature (KASED) was founded in Amed (Diyarbakır) last year. The association will provide art courses in the Kurdish language, painting, cinema, and folk dance for just women and children. The association will hold its opening ceremony on September 5 in the city.

“First women come to mind when people talk about art”

“Seven women came together and we decided to found an association for women, who cannot access art education,” said Saliha Ayata, a Kurdish teacher of the association. After getting in contact with women working in the field of art, these seven women founded the Women’s Association For Culture, Art, and Literature (KASED). “We asked ourselves what we could do to increase the number of women in the art. We decided to found this association. First women come to mind when people talk about art. For this reason, we decided to found an association for women. Kurdish, Turkish, and Armenian women in the city can come and reveal their culture and arts.”

“We had to postpone the opening ceremony due to the coronavirus pandemic”

The association was founded last year in June, “After officially founded our association, we renovated the building of the association. We were ready to hold its opening ceremony but the coronavirus pandemic broke out in the country and we had to postpone the opening ceremony due to the coronavirus pandemic. We opened several courses and women attended the courses; however, we had to suspend the courses in winter due to the pandemic,” Saliha Ayata told us.

“Women and children are invited to the opening ceremony”

The association has provided art education courses just for women and children. Saliha Ayata said, “Our office is in the Bağlar district of Amed because women and children living in this district have no alternative to access art education. We will hold the opening ceremony of the association on September 5. Women and children are invited to the ceremony. We will dance and sing together at the opening ceremony.”
