Hîlala Zêrin kicks off its cultural and artistic activities for the refugee children from Afrin

Hîlala Zêrin Women's Culture Movement kicks off its cultural and artistic activities for the refugee children from Afrin in Shehba. The movement has organized many courses such as music, painting, and folk dance courses for the children.

Shehba- Dozens of children of Afrin had to leave their city and houses in 2018 due to the attacks on Afrin. They now live in the refugee camps in Shehba along with their families.  Hîlala Zêrin Women's Culture Movement kicks off its cultural and artistic activities for the refugee children from Afrin in Shehba. The movement has organized many courses such as music, painting, folk dance, and theater courses for the children. The workshops of courses have become the second houses for the children now.

“Even though they are far from their hometown, they should grow up with their culture”

Mizgin Çolaq, a member of the Hîlala Zêrin Women's Culture Movement in Shehba, noted that education has an important place in children’s lives. “Children are our future. We think they should grow up with their culture even though they are far from their hometown,” Mizgin Çolaq told us.

Mizgin Çolaq also gave us information about their works in Shehba. “We have formed a folk dance group, a theater group, and a children's choir until now. We have also started music courses to teach children how to use various instruments such as violin and saz,” Mizgin Çolaq said they are planning to organize a children's festival soon.
