Young Yazidi women announced the establishment of their union named, “the Shengal Young Women's Union” during their first congress.
Shengal- Young women held their first congress in Shengal and announced the establishment of the Shengal Young Women’s Union (Yekîtiya Jinên Ciwan a Şengalê-YJCŞ).
During the congress, the women also determined a road map of the union and decided the union to be the umbrella organization of young women. The decisions taken during the congress are as follows:
The Shengal Young Women’s Union
· Works to build an ethical and political society through free thought,
· Establishes its system based on communal life, assemblies, academy, cooperatives and self-defense approach.
· Recognizes the YJŞ as their defense forces and takes responsibility for its development,
· Makes great efforts to solve problems faced by women,
· Organizes itself through education, self-defense, press, economy, culture-art, sports and health committees,
· Empowers young women to participate in the Democratic Autonomous system in Shengal,
· Works coordinately and is in solidarity with the women’s movement,
· Women ages 14-30 can be members of the YJCŞ.
Council members were elected
During the last session of the congress, 13 council members of the Shengal Young Women’s Union were elected.
