Shahba- The Shahmaran Center for Physical Rehabilitation and Training Research was opened in Shahba on January 15, 2023 by Kongra Star Health Committee. The center provides physiotherapy services and herbal treatments to women by using herbal medicines and oils.

“Kongra Star Health Committee makes efforts for women,” said Connie Mustafa, Spokesperson of the center. “The committee began to carry out awareness-raising meetings in camps with the support of village communes in order to reach all women. During discussions, the need for a health center providing herbal treatments was emphasized. On the anniversary of the first congress of Kongra Star, the Shahmaran Center for Physical Rehabilitation and Training Research was opened in Shahba.”

The center provides physiotherapy and fetal echocardiography services to women and it has a massage division and sports division to serve pregnant women with the aim of reducing the rates of C-sections and women suffering from obesity. “We also prepare mixtures for people suffering from asthma, hemorrhoids, disc diseases, hair loss and skin diseases.”

Connie Mustafa told NuJINHA that all mixtures prepared at the center are made of herbs and herbal oils. “The effects of herbal mixtures last longer and they have no side effects, unlike chemical medicines.”

‘We keep working despite everything’

Amira Sido, an employee at the sports division of the center, told us that they managed to open the center despite the ongoing siege imposed on the region by the Syrian government and Turkish attacks on the region. “Daily physical activities and exercises are important for pregnant women to prepare for natural birth. We also help women suffering from obesity, spinal diseases, etc. The center also organizes awareness-raising activities about the importance of sports. We keep working despite everything.”

‘C-section has many complications’

Majdoline Zeino works as a midwife at the center. Pointing to the recent increase in C-sections, she said, “C-section have many complications including infection, damage to your internal organs, an increased risk of respiratory distress for your baby and complications with future pregnancies. The center gives advice to pregnant women about the risks of C-section. It also provides herbal treatments.”

Since the center was opened in Shahba, many women have gone to the center to ask questions and receive treatments during their pregnancy. “Since all employees of the center are women, women feel comfortable when they come here. The center aims to be a center meeting all needs of women.”
