In an interview with NuJINHA, Delal Mehmûd, Spokesperson of Kongra Star in the town of Zirgan, talked about their activities. “Zirgan is one of the towns, where women led the revolution,” Delal Mehmûd said. “The town has been targeted by Turkish attacks every day. Despite the attacks, the women have not taken a step back for 11 years. The invaders aim to destroy our revolution. The attack on the women working in the cotton fields shows that.”

‘The attacks cannot stop our activities’

The members of Kongra Star keep carrying out activities for women in the town despite the ongoing Turkish attacks. “The attacks cannot stop our activities. We hold seminars, meetings and educational activities in the town and its rural areas. The aim of the Turkish attacks is to depopulate the town but women are determined not to leave their town and villages.”

‘The people struggle against the invaders’

Noting that the people of Zirgan lead a life based on the ideology of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan, Delal Mehmûd said, “The people of Zirgan struggle against the invaders. They protect themselves and their homes for five years. As Kongra Star, we carry out activities for women’s freedom and we will make more efforts in 2014 not to allow the enemy to achieve its goal. We do not expect anything from the guarantor states anymore because we believe in ourselves and protect ourselves.”
