“We do not accept the construction of the wall between Shengal and Rojava”
Shengal Autonomous Administration protested the construction of a wall between Shengal and Rojava.
Shengal- Shengal Autonomous Administration issued a press statement at the Baxçe Serokatî (The Garden of Leader) in Shengal to protest the construction of the wall between Shengal and Rojava by the Iraqi government. The members of the Yazidi Free Women's Movement (TAJÊ), the representatives of NGOs, and prominent members of the Yazidi community supported the statement issued by the Shengal Autonomous Administration.
Xezal Reşo, Co-chair of the Autonomous District Council, began her speech by saying, “Happy April 4th to all people. We were saved from the edict (genocide) of August 3, 2014 thanks to the birth of April 4 (referring to the birthday of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan). Humanity owes a lot to leader Apo (Abdullah Öcalan).” She continued her speech by drawing attention to the genocidal practices against Shengal and the international conventions.
“We condemn the construction of the wall”
“On August 3, 2014, the freedom fighters and guerrillas saved us from ISIS by opening a humanitarian corridor between the borders of Shengal and Rojava. Now, the Iraqi soldiers are building a concrete wall on this border. We, as the Shengal Autonomous Administration, do not accept and condemn the wall being built between Rojava Kurdistan and Shengal,” Xezal Reşo said in her speech.
Call to “Stop the construction”
Reminding that they (the Iraqi government) want to break the spiritual unity of the Kurds by building the walls, but the Kurds continue to unite despite such attempts, Xezal Reşo said, “This wall is being built to leave the Yazidi people unprotected in a possible attack. We call on the international community to stop the construction.”
