Verisheh Moradi’s family threatened

The brother-in-law of Verisheh (Warisha) Moradi was arrested in Sanandaj on Sunday while her family members have been threatened with arrest in recent months, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) reported on Monday.

News Center- Karim Asghari, the brother-in-law of Verisheh (Warisha) Moradi, a Kurdish political prisoner on death row, was arrested in Sanandaj on Sunday, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) reported on Monday.

According to the organization, Verisheh Moradi’s family members have been summoned multiple times to the Ministry of Intelligence in Sanandaj and repeatedly threatened with arrest in recent months.

Mehraneh Moradi, sister of Verisheh Moradi, was directly threatened with arrest “if she keeps following up on her sister’s case”.

 Mehraneh Moradi and her husband Karim Asghari were previously arrested in Sanandaj in 2018 by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and they were released on bail after spending several months in custody.

Verisheh Moradi, a women’s rights defender and a member of the East Kurdistan Free Women Society (KJAR), was arrested by Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence agents while traveling into Sanandaj on August 2, 2023. On November 10, 2024, she was sentenced to death for “armed rebellion against the state”. She is at imminent risk of execution in Iran.
