Sulaymaniyah – Journalists, activists, politicians and some groups continue to face pressure in both Turkey and the Kurdistan Region. While the Turkish attacks in the Kurdistan Region continue, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP or PDK) impose pressure on the Kurdish people. More than 250 journalists in the Kurdistan Region released a statement to be in solidarity with 16 journalists, who have been jailed in Turkey, while some journalists keep silent against the arrest of the journalists.

“They avenge on journalists for their failures”

Hêvî Salih, a journalist in the Kurdistan Region, reacted to the arrest of 16 journalists in Turkey and said, “The policies carried out by the AKP in Northern Kurdistan are also the policies of the KDP. The same policies are being carried out in Başûrê Kurdistan because the policy of the KDP is a continuation of Erdoğan's policy. Those who demand freedom in the Kurdistan Region and Turkey face the same threats. Turkey attacks the Kurdistan Region because it suffers from economic and political crises. They avenge on journalists for their failures.”

“We should take a firm stance”

Speaking about the situation of jailed 16 journalists, she said, “More than 250 journalists from the Kurdistan Region condemn the arrest of 16 journalists and they are in solidarity with them. The journalists working for the KDP and the government remain silent. When journalists oppose the party and government, they are arrested or killed. Therefore, we should take a firm stance against all tyrants.”
