Syrian women delegation visits Europe to highlight women’s issues

A women’s delegation from North and East Syria began a month-long European tour to boost cooperation with women’s and human rights groups and highlight Syrian women’s struggles amid years of crisis.

News Center – As part of ongoing efforts to connect the struggle of Syrian women with international support networks, a delegation from North and East Syria arrived in Europe in early September. The tour aims to showcase an organized, participatory, and culturally and socially resilient model of women’s leadership from the region, while advocating for Syrian women’s rights amid the ongoing crisis.

The delegation comprises five representatives from active women’s institutions in the region: Amina Omar, administrator at the Women’s Council of North and East Syria; Mona Al-Youssef, spokesperson for the Syrian Women’s Council; Shahrazad Al-Jasim, spokesperson for the Zenobia Women's Community; Jiyan Hussein, member of the Kongra Star Coordination; and Georgette Barsomo, spokesperson for the Syriac Women’s Union.

The tour began in Switzerland, where the delegation is scheduled to participate in conferences, dialogue panels, cultural festivals, and meetings with women’s and human rights organizations across Europe. They will later meet with members of parliament in Belgium and Switzerland to exchange expertise and strengthen collaboration on issues of mutual concern.

According to the delegation, the meetings will focus on the Syrian situation, including the governance model in North and East Syria, women’s experiences during the crisis, and the challenges faced by displaced and forcibly uprooted Syrians.

The delegation emphasized that the tour represents a step toward building bridges of understanding and solidarity, expanding women’s influence on political and human rights issues affecting Syria and the wider region.
