Qarchak prison: Women denied visits after power cut protest
A number of political prisoners at Qarchak Prison in Varamin have been denied family and lawyer visits following protests over repeated power outages.

News Center - Female political prisoners in the quarantine ward of Qarchak Prison in Varamin have faced restrictions on family and lawyer visits over the past two weeks after protesting repeated electricity outages inside the facility.
Rights activists condemned the move as a violation of prisoners’ rights, stressing that it deprives families of essential contact with their loved ones and reflects an escalation in repressive measures against female political detainees. They argue it also underscores authorities’ disregard for humanitarian principles and international legal standards in prison management.
According to reports, prisoners including Golrokh Iraee, Sakineh Parvaneh, Arghavan Fallahi, Neda Fotouhi, Mina Mashhadi, Paryoush Moslemi, Nasim Gholami Simyari, Marziyeh Farsi, Zahra Sarv, Azar Karvandi, Nahid Khodajo, and Forugh Taghizadeh, among others, were among those denied personal visits in recent weeks.
The restrictions followed slogans chanted by prisoners during protests over the blackouts. Last week, detainees Neda Fotouhi and Zahra Sarv were additionally charged with “insulting Khamenei” in connection with the demonstrations.
Qarchak Prison has long faced criticism for overcrowding, inhumane conditions, and inadequate health facilities. The women’s section, which holds a large number of political detainees, has repeatedly seen restrictions imposed by authorities in response to peaceful protests.
