Swiss Kurdish Women's Union holds its congress

The Swiss Kurdish Women's Union (YJK-S) held its congress as part of the campaign called, “Towards Women’s Revolution with Jin, Jiyan, Azadî,” and made plans and decisions for the new period.

News Center- The Swiss Kurdish Women's Union (YJK-S), the umbrella organization of the Kurdish women's organizations in Switzerland, held its congress yesterday. The congress held in the conference hall of the Basel Democratic Kurdish Community Center (CDK) as part of the campaign called, “Towards Women’s Revolution with Jin, Jiyan, Azadî”, was dedicated to Evîn Goyî, who was murdered in Paris on December 23, 2022, and Nagihan Akarsel, member of the Jineology Academy Center, who was murdered in Sulaymaniyah on October 4, 2022.

 Dozens of delegates and many guests attended the congress of the YJK-S, the umbrella organization of six assemblies, four communes and three initiatives, which held their congresses in March.

After a minute's silence, the elections of council were held and the next agenda of the union was discussed.

‘Kurdish women have been a determining factor in the women’s struggle all around the world’

Then, Zeynep Dersim, a member of the European Kurdish Women's Movement (TJK-E), made a speech. “2022 and 2023 were very busy years both for women's struggle all around the world and for the politics of Kurdistan and Turkey. In this process, Kurdish women have been a determining factor in the women’s struggle all around the world,” she said in her speech.

‘His physical freedom will be our main agenda’

Pointing to the isolation imposed on Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan in her speech, Zeynep Dersim said, “The philosophy of ‘Jin Jiyan Azadî’ which is the main element of the victory experienced by Kurdish women in the fight against ISIS in Rojava, spread from Rojhilat to Iran, from Iran to the world, and has become the main slogan of women's struggle for freedom. We will keep struggling against fascism and the exploitation of capitalist systems by protecting this philosophy, which was created by Kurdish women by paying heavy prices and until we ensure the physical freedom of leader Apo (Abdullah Öcalan), the creator of the "Jin jiyan azadi" philosophy. His physical freedom will be our main agenda.”

 Speaking about the upcoming elections to be held in Turkey on May 14, Zeynep Dersim said, “Today, the voting process in Switzerland may have ended. But our mission and responsibility have not ended yet. We should call our families, relatives and friends living in Turkey and Kurdistan, and invite them to go to the polls on May 14 and cast their vote.”

After the speeches, the current political process was discussed and the annual report of YJK-S was read and submitted to be discussed. Then, the new board members and regional representative of the YJK-S were elected.

Some of the decisions taken at the congress are:

“*The main aim of YJK-S's new term plan is to ensure the physical freedom of Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan. All actions and activities should therefore be carried out by keeping this in mind.

*Spreading the Science of Jineoloji by developing education workshops.

*Keep working for the formation of a woman-based confederal system.

*More works of assemblies for the development and spread of mother language.

*Organization and strengthening of diplomacy in public.”

The congress ended with the slogan, “‘Jin Jiyan Azadî”.
