Support from women to AANES: ISIS members must be prosecuted

Women of Afrin, who lost their children in the fight against ISIS, express their support for the decision of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) on the prosecution of ISIS members.

Shahba- The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) made its name known all around the world with its fight against ISIS in North and East Syria. ISIS have committed many war crimes by entering Syrian territory with the support of many sovereign states, especially the Turkish state.

When ISIS posed a threat to the whole world, the fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces defeated ISIS in NE Syria by waging a great fight. After the defeat of ISIS, more than 10,000 foreign ISIS members were arrested and they have been held in prisons controlled by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES). Although the AANES called on countries to form an international tribunal in order to try ISIS members, they received no response. On June 10, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria announced in a written statement that it would establish a tribunal to prosecute more than 10,000 foreign ISIS members according to regional and international laws. Displaced women of Afrin, who lost their children in the fight against ISIS, express their support to the decision of the AANES on the prosecution of foreign ISIS members.

 ‘We have been waiting for ISIS members to be prosecuted for a long time’

In an interview with NuJINHA, Henîfa Şêxo, mother of SDF fighter Mezlûm Qendîl, said, “My son was killed by ISIS in Kobanê while he was protecting his country. A fierce and heavy fight took place in Kobanê. Our children fought ISIS to the end and defeated ISIS. We have been waiting for ISIs members to be prosecuted for a long time. We support the decision of the AANES. We will never forget our children, who lost their lives while fighting ISIS.”

‘We support the decision of the Autonomous Administration’

Meziyet Yûsêf, mother of SDF fighter Şoreş Efrîn, said, “We demand justice for our children killed by ISIS. We support the decision of the Autonomous Administration on the prosecution of ISIS members. Our children died while defending their people and lands. Today, we are alive thanks to their resistance. ISIS members should stand trial for their crimes.”
