Soheila Golestani barred from leaving Iran

Iranian filmmaker and actress Soheila Golestani, who was unveiled as part of the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) Tiger Competition jury, has been barred from leaving Iran.

Soheila Golestani starred in Mohammad Rasoulof’s Oscar-nominated “The Seed of the Sacred Fig”.

Soheila Golestani has been accused of propaganda against the Iranian regime and promoting immorality because of her role in the film. Although no verdict has been issued against her yet, she has been banned from travelling abroad.

Soheila Golestani has been nominated for Best Actress at the Asia Pacific Awards for her role in “The Seed of the Sacred Fig”.

During the “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” protests that sparked in Iran following the killing of Jina Mahsa Amini in September 2022, Soheila Golestani announced her support for the protests.
