Sit-in protest of Şenyaşar family continues on its 394th day

“They destroyed my family,” Emine Şenyaşar says while waiting for justice to be delivered.

Riha - The sit-in protest started in front of the Urfa Courthouse by Emine Şenyaşar, whose husband and two sons were killed in the attack carried out on June 14, 2018, in Suruç by the relatives and bodyguards of AKP Urfa MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız, and her son Ferit Şenyaşar, who survived the attack, has continued on its 394th day.

Emine Şenyaşar and her son Ferit Şenyaşar came in front of the Urfa Courthouse in the morning to keep demanding justice for their killed relatives by holding a banner reading, “They killed my husband and two sons! There is not a single arrestee. One of my sons has been held in solitary confinement for four years by the orders of superiors. I demand the immediate release of my son. Justice for the Şenyaşar family, justice for everyone.”

“They destroyed my family”

After holding their protest, Emine Şenyaşar made a speech. Stating that everyone breaks their fast at home with their family members in Ramadan, Emine Şenyaşar said, “They destroyed my family. I cannot sit at home. I have to come here. Everyone is with their children. Why do they do this to us? How will they give account for what they do after death? I can go home when they release my son (Her son Fadıl Şenyaşar has been held in prison for four years). There is no justice. I am fasting and sick. If I die, I will die in front of this courthouse. I am unable to stand anymore. Enough is enough.”

“Our sit-in protest is on its 394th day. Those who persecute through the judiciary break their fast with their families. On the 5th day of Ramadan, we break our fast in front of the courthouse,” the Şenyaşar family posts today on their social media account.
