Aleppo- The Shler Children’s Commune was opened in Aleppo’s Sheikh Maqsoud by Kongra Star on March 12 to support the education of children aged 7-13 and develop their skills.

‘At first, few children participated in our activities’

NuJINHA spoke to Samira Bakr, member of the Shler Children’s Commune, about the activities of the commune. “We opened this commune to educate the children and entertain them. At first, few children participated in our activities, but today many children participate in our activities,” said Samira Bakr, adding that they get positive reactions from parents about their activities.

‘We want to be close to all the children of the neighborhood’

The commune focuses on the development of good behavior in children. “We try to reach as many children as possible. We want to be close to all the children of the neighborhood in order to build a conscious and educated generation having good values. Children are good at painting, singing and dancing. We realized that children want to become professional at the subjects they are interested in.”

‘We give information about their culture and history’

At the commune, children take courses to develop their hobbies. “We provide Kurdish language courses to them. We also give information to them about their culture and history,” said Samira Bakr, adding that children are happy when I spend time at the commune. “Children want to spend more time at the commune in order to learn more things. This commune is for children aged 7-13. We prepare an archive containing the names, ages and pictures of each child. We make efforts to improve the programs of the commune. We work hard to bring more children to the commune, especially children who have lost their families. The commune will be like a family that embraces and educates them.”
