Sepideh Gholian’s right of defense violated

Iranian women’s rights activist Sepideh Gholian was denied her right of defense for refusing to cover her hair.

News Center- Iranian women’s rights activist Sepideh Gholian, who has been held in Evin prison, was denied her right of defense for refusing to cover her hair. She was not allowed to attend the hearing in the trial against her.

“Despite many recommendations, the accused Sepideh Gholian did not accept to wear a hijab. For this reason, she was not sent to the court to defend herself,” said the court.

In May 2023, Sepideh Gholian was sentenced to two years in prison on charges of “insulting the supreme leader”.
