Elih –  15 women, including politicians and activists were taken into custody in the house raids conducted in the city of Batman and its districts yesterday as part of an investigation launched by the Batman Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Batman Provincial Co-chair Hürriyet Kaytar and HDP Batman Provincial administrator Gizem Oğurlu spoke to NuJINHA about the detention of women.

“Their aim is to break women’s struggle”

Stating that the AKP-MHP government tries to form their own system, Hürriyet Kaytar said, “HDP Women's Council and TJA have been making great efforts to spread women's struggle in all spheres of life for years. In recent years, political genocidal operations have been carried out against women in order to break their struggle, especially after women made great decisions at our conferences. But they (AKP-MHP government) know us very well. In other words, they are very aware that pressure and detention cannot stop the women's struggle; on the contrary, this struggle will only grow as they attack us. We will keep working on the ground and strengthen our struggle even more and take our friends from them. We have many plans to implement soon. They detained our friends with the aim of breaking women’s struggle. “

“We will strengthen our struggle”

Gizem Oğurlu told us that the political repression could not stop women’s struggle. “Pressures cannot intimidate women. As long as they continue to oppress us, we will continue to resist and struggle. We will strengthen our struggle in all spheres of life.”

“Their aim is to destroy women’s struggle”

Speaking about the appointed mayors in the Kurdish region, Gizem Oğurlu said, “The appointed mayors first targeted women’s achievements. The attacks on women’s struggle show us the strong women’s struggle. All women, particularly women of the HDP, face pressures. This shows us how HDP women members have been waging a strong struggle against the ruling party. These pressures will never intimidate us and make us take a step back from our struggle.”
