News Center — The human rights situation in Iran is escalating, with increasing arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances, and restrictions on freedoms, amid warnings of widespread violations including execution and unfair trials, while authorities continue to carry out raids and detention campaigns.

Four female detainees are facing the risk of execution in the women's wing of Vakilabad prison in Mashhad, on political charges. Mahboubeh Shabani, 30, is detained on charges of "waging war" for transporting wounded protesters to hospital. Zeinab Mousavi (known as "Aban") and her brother Hassan Mousavi are held on the same charge. Roya Jamiliyan Motallegh is detained on charges of "insulting," while Haniyeh Sarbouzi, 29, a mother of one, is held on charges of "rebellion."

UN experts have warned of the imminent risk of execution for Bakhshan Azizi and Varish Moradi, two political prisoners sentenced to death, amid growing concerns over the escalation of executions of women prisoners of conscience.

In recent days, several prisoners have been executed: Tohid Abdullah was executed in Ardabil prison, and the death sentence of Ali Banahinejad was carried out in Dezful prison. It was also reported that at least five prisoners were executed, including three Afghans and a Baloch prisoner. The President of the UN Human Rights Council expressed grave concern over the increasing executions in Iran, calling for an immediate halt to their implementation.

It was stated that at least 56 people have been executed on national security-related charges, 27 of them in cases linked to this year's protests, while more than 100 people face execution on similar charges. The organization "Tork" also expressed concern over the absence of fair trial guarantees, reports of torture and forced confessions, and the execution of some sentences only weeks after individuals' arrest.

Detainees: From Arrest to Release

A number of detainees remain in custody in several Iranian prisons, including journalists, activists, and detainees from recent protests, with some serving extended periods without trial. In recent times, limited furloughs have been granted to some female prisoners, while activists and journalists continue to be summoned for interrogation in new cases. One minor was released on bail after interrogation, while security forces carried out an arrest campaign in a Kurdish village, resulting in the detention of several citizens.

Meanwhile, UN experts expressed concern over the increasing cases of arbitrary arrest, enforced disappearance, torture, and execution in Iran, calling for an end to the suppression of Kurdish and Baloch citizens.

According to the report, at least 24 Baloch citizens and 22 Kurdish citizens were executed in 2026, with many still facing execution risk. UN experts also warned against the use of charges such as "waging war," "corruption on earth," "rebellion," and the expanded definition of "espionage" as tools to suppress opposition. They emphasized the necessity of adhering to fair trial guarantees, prohibition of torture, and the principle of equality and non-discrimination.
