Maryam Akbari transferred to Qarchak prison

Political prisoner Maryam Akbari Monfared has been transferred to Qarchak prison from Semnan prison after 15 years of imprisonment far from her family.

News Center- Maryam Akbari Monfared, who has been imprisoned in Iran since December 2009, has been transferred from Semnan prison to Qarchak prison.

The political prisoner received an additional two-year sentence in 2023 after serving nearly 14 years of her 15-year prison sentence

On December 31, 2009, Maryam Akbari Monfared was arrested and forcibly disappeared for five months. She was held in solitary confinement for the first 43 days of her imprisonment. She was denied access to a lawyer during the investigation and met her state-appointed lawyer for the first time at her trial.

In May 2010, she was sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Branch 15 Revolutionary Court in Tehran.

In March 2021, Maryam Akbari Monfared was transferred to a distant prison in Semnan province far from her family.

Maryam Akbari Monfared’s three brothers and one sister were executed during the 1988 mass executions in Iran.
