Letter from WWC to revolutionary women of Rojava

Halinka Augustin and Susanne Bader, European Coordinators of the World Women's Conference, sent a letter to the revolutionary women of Rojava to mark the 10th anniversary of the revolution in Rojava.

News Center- Halinka Augustin and Susanne Bader, European Coordinators of the World Women's Conference, sent a letter celebrating the 10th anniversary of the revolution in Rojava.

“We send you our congratulations on the 10th anniversary of the revolution in Rojava. On 19.7.2012, the heroic struggle for democracy and freedom took off from Kobane. As a result, the so-called "Islamic State/Daesh" was victoriously driven out. Your struggle, in which women fought in their own women's battalion, has brought the greatest rights to women in the region to date. The blood toll is tremendously high, with about 11,000 fighters killed and about 21,000 injured,” the letter said.

Killing of three women commanders

“But it is not only the fighters who died in the struggle who are to be mourned,” the letter said, “As we have just learned, three leading female fighters were cowardly murdered by the Turkish army on your anniversary. They are Jiyan Tolhildan, Roj Xabûr and Barîn Botan. All of them are commemorated and celebrated on the 10th anniversary together with the promise to continue the struggle for democracy and freedom.”

“Our heart beats for the fighters in Rojava”

Expressing their support to the fighters in Rojava, Halinka Augustin and Susanne Bader wrote in the letter, “The great successes in building the democratic federation of Northeast Syria are undisputed. From the beginning, we World Women stood by your side. With the round trip to several European countries under the motto "our heart beats for the fighters in Rojava", we made your struggle known and practised practical, international solidarity.”

Region is again under massive attacks

Highlighting the ongoing Turkish attacks on the region, the letter said, “Today, your region is again under massive attack. The self-government in northern and eastern Syria had to declare a state of emergency. Attacks of the Turkish Erdogan regime on Western and Southern Kurdistan and the threatening invasion of the Turkish army threaten the successes. The current development is a living proof of the necessity of an international, anti-imperialist and anti-fascist union. Our new platform of anti-imperialists and anti-fascists in the World Women's Conference must include many supporters and prove itself practically.”

The letter ended with the following words:

“Dear friends and comrades-in-arms,

We send you our solidarity greetings on your anniversary and our unrestricted solidarity in the struggle for a new world of peace and freedom.

Long live international solidarity.”
