Idlib- The lack of supervision, support and specialist doctors causing the increase in medical errors in hospitals in the city of Idlib, especially Idlib University Hospital often kill patients. Faryal Al-Hac Hüseyin told NuJINHA that her daughter Ruba Al-Hac (28) had undergone a C-section at the Idlib University Hospital due to heavy bleeding and pains during her pregnancy.

 ‘My daughter died four days later’

After undergoing a C-section, her daughter’s health condition deteriorated. “After the surgery, we realized that something was wrong around the stitches; however, the doctor told us everything was normal. My daughter died four days later,” said Faryal Al-Hac Hüseyin, who did not file a complaint against the doctor because she thinks that there is no justice.

 ‘I lost my baby when I was nine months pregnant’

Salam Al-Eido went to the hospital for regular checks; however, she lost her baby when she was nine months pregnant due to the medications given to her by a midwife. “I went to the hospital for regular checks when I was nine months pregnant. I would undergo a C-section; however, the apprentice midwife did not agree due to the infection in my body. She gave me some medications and then I underwent the C-section. Then, I learned that my baby died before the C-section.”

39-year-old Salam Al-Eido thinks that she lost her baby due to lack of supervision and specialist personnel. “I did not file a criminal complaint against the midwife because the courts are controlled by the Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham.”

‘Medical errors must be addressed’

Ruqaya Al-Maarati, a doctor in Idlib, thinks that medical errors are among the important and sensitive issues that should be addressed.

“Complications after surgery and difficult medical cases exist all over the world. However, the increase in medical errors in Idlib is due to the lack of medical supervision and the lack of specialists. The medical errors are ignored. Patients are not the guinea pigs.”
