Kobanê- On March 16, 2025, a Turkish drone strike on the Berxbotan village of Kobanê killed 10 members of 11-member Ebdo family; Xezal Ebdo (39), Osman Ebdo (42), their children Ahîn (15), Dicle (14), Dilovan (13), Yasir (6), Salihe (4), Fewaz (2), Ronîda and Avêsta (8-month-old). Nine year-old Narin, who was injured in the strike, is still fighting for her life in hospital. The Ebdo family, originally from the village of Girk, eastern of Kobanê, moved to the village of Berxbotan to work there.
“The aim of the Turkish strikes is to depopulate the region,” the women of the village of Girk told NuJINHA.
“The Turkish state aims to intimidate the people by committing such massacres,” said Helîm Ibrahîm, a relative of the Ebdo family in the village. “Osman was the cousin of my spouse and we used to be neighbors. His children and our children used to play together. They moved to another village to work because their financial situation was not good. The Turkish state killed them. Eight children were innocent. We will not leave our homeland no matter what the Turkish state does.”
‘They killed an unborn child’
Cîhan Berho, a resident of Girk and relative of a martyr, told us that many mothers lost their children in Turkish attacks. “Since the massacre, I have my days and nights mixed up. We cannot watch the videos showing the moments of the massacre. Everyone remains silent when it comes to Kurds. The Turkish state killed an unborn child in Ramadan.”
Hedlê Ehmed, a relative and neighbor of the Ebdo family, had spent time with the Ebdo family when the family lived in the village of Girk. “Our children used to play together. The Turkish state killed 10 members of the family. There is only one person left from the same family. It is not clear whether she will survive or not.”
