Green Left Party’s parliamentary candidate Meryem Yıldırım released from prison

Meryem Yıldırım, who was a parliamentary candidate of the Green Left Party from Izmir and arrested on May 31, has been released from prison.

 Izmir- Meryem Yıldırım, who was a parliamentary candidate of the Green Left Party from Izmir and arrested on May 31, as part of an investigation based in Eskişehir, was released from prison yesterday. She was released after the lawyers of the Ezilenlerin Hukuk Bürosu (English: Law Bureau of the Oppressed) objected to her arrest pending the trial.

On April 30, 2023, Meryem Yıldırım was taken into custody on charges of “membership in a terrorist organization” as part of an investigation based in Eskişehir. Then, a court released her under judicial control but placed her on house arrest. However, an arrest warrant was issued against her upon the prosecutor's objection to house arrest. When she went to the Izmir Courthouse to testify, she was detained again and sent to Şakran Women's Closed Prison.
