Femicide cases rising in Afghanistan

In Afghanistan, women are killed by the Taliban militants and the supporters of the Taliban every day while the suspicious deaths of women are recorded as “suicide”.

Afghanistan- Taliban restrictions keep amount to femicide. NuJINHA Persian compiled the data on femicide and suspicious death of women in Afghanistan from local, national newspapers and news agencies from January 20, 2024 to February 15, 2024.

· On January 20, a woman was killed by her husband in the Sabri district of Khost province.

· On January 21, the body of a 28-year-old woman was found in the city of Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of Balkh Province. According to the local reports, she was tortured to death.

· On February 1, a 17-year-old girl killed herself in the Andkhoy district of Faryab province. According to the local reports, she killed herself because she was forced into a marriage.

· On February 1, a three-old girl and her father were killed in an armed attack on their house in Babaji suburb of Lashkargah, Helmand province.

· On February 3, armed men attacked the house of 79-year-old Manourshah Heydari in the city of Mazar-I-Sharif, Balkh province. His 65-year-old wife, his 41-year-old daughter and his 26-year-old son were killed in the attack.

· On February 3, a man killed his sister-in-law and her two children in the Sahib district of Kunduz Province.

· On February 6, a woman, her three children and her husband were killed and another man was injured in an armed attack on their home in the Nurgaram district of Nuristan province.

·  On February 6, an 18-year-old girl named Nasima was killed in the Shirin Tagab district of Faryab province.

· On February 6, the dead body of a teenager was found in Balkh province. According to the local reports, she was shot dead by the Taliban.

· On February 10, a woman was killed by her husband in the Dand-e-Ghori district of Baghlan province.

·  On February 11, an 18-year-old girl died under suspicious circumstances in the Almar district of Faryab province. According to the local reports, she committed suicide due to domestic violence.

· On February 15, an old woman died of a heart attack due to fear when she heard about house raids in the 315 Khair Khana area of Kabul.
