Education program for women in Hasakah

Women participating in the education program started by Kongra Star Education Committee in Hasakah say their aim is to understand the ideology of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan and strengthen their comradeship.

Hasakah- On October 10, the Martyr Perwîn Academy affiliated to Kongra Star Education Committee in Hasakah, a city in Jazira Canton of North and East Syria, started an education program in the memory of Gulistan Tara and Hêro Behadîn, two female journalists killed in a Turkish drone attack in Sulaymaniyah on August 23, 2024. The education program attended by 25 women consists of workshops, seminars and film screenings on many issues such as women’s history, capitalism, how to build democratic families and revolution.  

“We named the education program after Hêro Behadîn to respond to the Turkish attacks targeting women,” said  Cengîban Şêxo, Spokesperson of Kongra Star Education Committee, who started her speech by commemorating the martyr Gülnaz Karataş (nom de guerre: Bêrîtan Hêvî), one of the leading commanders of the PKK who was killed on October 25, 1992. “Today, the attacks on women, who play a leading role in society, continue. As the Education Committee, we started the education program to respond to the attacks targeting women’s resistance. The education program aims to change society through women who develop their own free will. We aim to build an ethical and political society through education. If we want to build a free and educated society, we must first develop women’s science (Jineology).”

‘Education is important for everyone’

Kamila Yûsif, member of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), emphasized the importance of education on culture and ethics and said, “Education is important for everyone because it enables us to improve ourselves. Each nation has its own unique culture and ethical standards. Ethics is culture; there is no ethics without culture.”

‘The ideology of leader Apo sheds light on our lives’

“Our aim is to understand the ideology of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan,” said Hîba Ehmed, a member of Kongra Star Education Committee in the town of al-Hol. “We participate in the education program to understand the ideology of leader Apo (Abdullah Öcalan) and strengthen their comradeship. The ideology of leader Apo sheds light on our lives.”
