Qamishlo (Qamishli)- Women artists and intellectuals in the city of Qamishlo condemned the ongoing Turkish attacks on the Tishreen Dam and the Qereqozax Bridge, located in northeastern Syria, expressing their support to the resistance of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Women's Defense Units (YPJ).

 ‘Nothing has changed in Syria’

Since the fall of the Assad regime, Syria has been going through a sensitive process, said Hasina Ahmed, member of the Union of Intellectuals in Jazira Canton. “When Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) took control, all the attacks on North and East Syria were expected to end. However, nothing has changed in Syria. On the contrary, the Turkish state and Turkish-backed factions have intensified their attacks on North and East Syria. Their attacks on the Tishreen Dam and the Qereqozax Bridge continue.”

‘The international community and human rights organizations remain silent’

Hasina Ahmed recalled the attacks of the Turkish state and Turkish-backed factions on the city of Manbij and the resistance of the SDF and the YPJ against the attacks. “Since they occupied Manbij, they have committed many crimes against humanity such as killing, looting and kidnapping. The people of Manbij have been subjected to crimes against humanity for defending their region. Despite the crimes against humanity, the international community and human rights organizations remain silent.”

‘We stand with the YPJ’

Hasina Ahmed expressed her support to the SDF and the YPJ. “We stand with the SDF and the YPJ. The YPJ fights on the frontline against the enemies of women and the people. The women of the YPJ, acting according to the ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadî’ philosophy, have become a symbol of resistance and honor all over the world. Therefore, we call on all people to support the SDF and the YPJ and be in solidarity with them. We should allow people, who have no power, to be the victims of the plans enacted by capitalist countries.”

Call to ‘resist the attacks’

“Our strength and unity will defeat the enemy,” said Berivan Botan, an artist in Qamishlo, reminding that all ethnic and religious identities have fought against the attacks since the revolution led by women in Rojava started. “We call on all artists in the four parts of Kurdistan and all over the world to support our defense units resisting the attacks of the Turkish state and Turkish-backed factions in our region.”
