Women of Amed: Concrete steps must be taken for peace
Women of Amed call for national unity against the ongoing attacks on Rojava and say that concrete steps must be taken for peace.
Amed (Diyarbakır)- The Turkish state has continued to carry out attacks on North and East Syria while democratic organizations have organized protests and demonstrations to draw attention to the Turkish attacks and expose the war crimes committed by the Turkish state.
On Wednesday, the members of the Free Women’s Movement (Kurdish: Tevgera Jinên Azad-TJA), the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) and the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) and people of Amed held a sit-in protest at the Şêx Saîd (Dağkapı) Square, Amed’s Sur district.
Pınar Memiş, one of the protesters, condemned the ongoing Turkish attacks targeting civilians in North and East Syria, criticizing the Turkish government for not taking concrete steps to build peace and to stop the bloodshed. “Concrete steps must be taken for peace. We will never give up the struggle,” she told NuJINHA.
“We are here to stop this bloodshed and talk about peace again. The Kurdish people and everyone demanding peace must unite. We must stand with the people of Rojava against the attacks.”
Pınar Memiş also commented on the meetings with Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan in the prison island of Imrali. “The Kurdish people must be recognized and their demands must be met to build peace.”
‘We do not believe the government’s discourses on peace’
War crimes have been committed against the people of North and East Syria, said Hacer Kurt, calling for exposing these war crimes. “We must raise our voices for Rojava.”
Hacer Kurt told us that they do not believe the AKP government’s recent discourses on peace. “The government does not take concrete steps for a new peace process. We demand concrete steps be taken, not discourses.”
Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP) member Beycan Taşkıran thinks that the aim of the attacks on North and East Syria is to eliminate the resistance and the revolution in Rojava. “The system aims to block the popular movement by oppressing all revolutionary and democratic forces in Türkiye and Bakur. Türkiye suffers from an economic crisis and unemployment; women are subjected to all forms of violence and injustice has deepened in the country. We will defend the revolution in Rojava at any price.”
‘Mothers should not shed tears anymore’
“We demand peace so that mothers should not shed tears anymore,” said Fatma Yalçın, a member of the Peace Mothers’ Initiative. “This war and bloodshed must end now. Targeting civilians and killing children are war crimes. Enough is enough! Peace, peace, peace.”
