On the evening of Thursday, January 8, the city of Homs witnessed a new bloody incident, as two gunmen targeted a group of medical staff while they were leaving Al-Kindi Hospital after finishing their official work shift.

The attack resulted in the killing of four healthcare workers and the injury of a fifth, in a scene that reflects the escalating security disorder gripping the city.

The attack took place at the hospital entrance, where the two gunmen opened direct fire on the victims, killing Layal Salloum, Mazen Al-Asmar, Dhulfiqar Al-Khadr, and Alaa Wannous, and injuring Osama Diab. Medical sources confirmed that his condition is stable.

This incident comes amid a rise in violent acts in Homs in recent weeks, while residents have expressed concern over the absence of decisive measures by the relevant authorities to stop these recurring crimes.

The targeting of medical staff has also sparked additional fears among the population, given the vital role healthcare workers play amid the difficult conditions the country is experiencing.
