Sulaymaniyah- The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) has been closing the border crossings between North and East Syria and the Kurdistan Region for years without any explanation. Şahen Muhammed, member of the Kurdistan Society Freedom Movement (Kurdish: Tevgera Azadî), says the KDP has blocked aid to North and East Syria. “The border crossings have been closed for months. The people of the Kurdistan Region want to send aid to the people of North and East Syria; however, the Kurdistan regional government, particularly the KDP, have blocked aid to North and East Syria. In addition, the KDP has sent aid to ISIS and other armed groups in North and East Syria through the Barzani Charity Foundation.”

Noting that the Kurdistan Region of Iraq is a stable and peaceful region, Şahen Muhammed said, “After the February 6 earthquakes, aid could have been sent to other parts of Kurdistan; however, he authorities and the two ruling parties, KDP and PUK, blocked aid to be sent to North and East Syria.”

‘The attitude of the KDP is a shameful attitude’

“The Kurdish people struggle to destroy the borders dividing them,” Şahen Muhammed said, “The Kurdish people are always united. Therefore, the KDP always supports the occupying states because it is afraid of the unity of the Kurdish people. The KDP has closed border crossings because it always works for the interests of the enemy. The attitude of the KDP is a shameful attitude. The KDP serves the invaders causing the ongoing destruction of territories of South Kurdistan.”

‘People are disappointed’

Şahen Muhammed thinks the people of South Kurdistan have been affected by the current political crisis, “The people are disappointed with the current system in the Kurdistan Region.”
