Gaza- Roles For Social Change Association (ADWAR) continues to develop projects for women in the Gaza Strip. Since it was founded in 2010, the association has carried out many activities to empower Palestinian women and girls socially, to reduce violence against women so they will be capable of active, civic participation and living in a society characterized by social justice. The association has also organized a first aid course for women and girls in the Gaza Strip to deal with physical and psychological injuries.
We spoke to Fida Abu Darabi, the coordinator of ADWAR in the Gaza Strip, about the first aid course organized by the ADWAR. “ADWAR seeks to enhance social protection for young women in the Gaza Strip, and we have organized a first aid course due to the need for women and girls to acquire the necessary skills and experience, especially in emergency situations. More than 20 women and girls have attended the course until now,” she told us.
“Deal with your fears”
Sundus Al-Khatib, one of the participants in the course, said, “I was excited to get this course because it is necessary in our daily lives inside or outside the house. Today I learned some information about how to deal with injuries without fear or anxiety, and I see that such courses are more useful for girls and women than men. Women should participate in such courses to deal with their fears.”
Maryam Al-Batsh, another participant of the course, said, “The first thing that motivated me to participate in the course was my love for learning new things. Every day, we face cases and injuries such as cuts, bruises and fractures, and sometimes we cannot act and relieve the situation faster. Women and girls should participate in such courses because they are important in daily life.”
