News Center – After 18 days of search operations, the mystery of the disappearance of student Rogin Kabayış was closed on 27 September 2024, with the discovery of her body lying on the shores of Lake Van in northern Kurdistan. The incident, which began after the young woman left her university dormitory, quickly turned into a public opinion case that ignited widespread anger and demands for the necessity of fully revealing the circumstances of the death.

The Women's Council of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM) in Adana demanded, in a statement issued today, Monday, 28 September, the urgent revelation of the circumstances of the death of student Rogin Kabayış, whose body was found after her disappearance in Van city.

The statement criticized the continued ambiguity surrounding the case despite the passage of time, stressing the necessity of fully revealing the causes of death and the extent of involvement of third parties in the incident.

To clarify the course of the investigation, the statement focused on the following main points and demands: Examining DNA samples, after the revelation of genetic fingerprints belonging to two different men in the samples taken from the victim's body, and opening a precise investigation to determine the identity of the owners of these fingerprints and reveal their relationship to the incident.

The statement called for investigating the extent to which Van University and the administration of the university dormitory where Rogin Kabayış was residing bear their legal and security responsibilities, evaluating the response procedures, reviewing and auditing the reporting and intervention mechanisms followed by the concerned authorities immediately upon Rogin Kabayış's disappearance, alongside emptying and examining all surveillance camera recordings surrounding the site.

Member of the Adana Women's Council of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party, Shukran Ifturk, confirmed that suspicious deaths of women should not be considered suicides or accidents before all evidence is collected, demanding the addressing of deficiencies in the investigation and the initiation of legal procedures against those responsible. "We will continue to follow the case until all aspects of Rogin Kabayış's death are clarified."
