News Center- The Research Committee of the Eastern Kurdistan Free Women's Society (Komalgeha Jinên Azad ên Rojhilatê Kurdistan, KJAR) has released a report titled, “Unpunished Crime” on femicide cases in Eastern Kurdistan- Kurdistan Region. “In 2019, 133 women died under suspicious circumstances, at least 33 women were killed by their family members or relatives. Five of them were killed in the name of honor,” the report says.

Suspicious deaths of 94 women in a year

“According to the report released by the Kurdistan Human Rights Network, 94 women, 33 of whom were under the age of 18, died under suspicious circumstances in 2020,” the report says, “18 more were killed by their brothers, fathers or husbands in the name of honor. In 2021, 94 women, 94 women, 15 of whom were under the age of 18, were killed or died under suspicious circumstances. 18 of them were killed in the name of honor, 17 by their husbands, and three by their ex-husbands. Since the beginning of 2022, seven women have been killed for various reasons in Eastern Kurdistan.”

“We work to find solutions”

At the end of the report, the KJAR says, “As KJAR, we work to find solutions to the problems faced by women in Eastern Kurdistan. Our aim is to raise awareness of all women, to get in touch with women. We call them to contact us when they are subjected violence.
